The Full Fact story

“In 2010, we made it our mission to raise the standards of politics and journalism in the UK. We saw it failing us at every turn. Newsrooms were spreading inaccurate and unsupported claims unchecked. Politicians were shaping our laws on claims which had little evidence to back them up. There was no existing independent body in the UK to deal with these issues.

We believed we could change that. We wanted to give the public the power to judge for themselves what and who to believe, based on the best information available. We wanted to hold public figures accountable for the things they said in public.

Just over a decade later, and thanks to our donors we have now raised over £100,000. This critical support has already led to thousands of fact checks, corrections from a Prime Minister and almost every national newspaper, and work with data bodies to fight for better fact checking processes in government.

But now we face new challenges. Misinformation is rife. Trust is eroding. Our institutions are being pushed to new limits by technological advancements and uncertainty about the future. We need facts more than ever.

This is where you come in. Your donation is vital for our small, independent team to keep going amidst a fast-changing and unstable political landscape.

With your help, we will be able to keep fact checking and scoring more corrections from public figures. We will have support to provide more people with the tools to decide for themselves what to believe. We will have strength to intervene more effectively where misinformation is most harmful.

Donate today, and stand up for better standards of public debate across the UK, at a time when it’s needed most.”
