This is not true. A spokesperson for FC Barcelona confirmed the club has not made any such statement.
A screenshot of a TikTok video, claiming that “FC Barcelona has cut all ties with Israel”, has been shared widely on social media.
But Full Fact could find no evidence the football club has ever made such an announcement on its website or social media pages, and there are no reports from credible news sources that it has done so.
A spokesperson for the club also confirmed to Full Fact that “FC Barcelona has NOT made any statement in this regard”.
People may instead be confusing this false claim with a decision made in November 2023 by Barcelona City Council to suspend institutional ties with the current Israeli government “until there is a definitive ceasefire”.
The screenshot of the video, posted online on 21 September, has been reshared on Facebook and Instagram. It also includes an unattributed quote: “It is not a war, it is genocide. We must not only denounce it, but act.”
It was reported that former Barcelona Mayor, Ada Colau, said this in November 2023 after the city council suspended institutional relations with the government of Israel. However, FC Barcelona is not mentioned in the document published online, or on the city council’s statement on X (formerly Twitter).

For the purposes of that scheme, we’ve rated this claim as false because FC Barcelona has not announced any action against Israel and a spokesperson confirmed the club has not made any such statement.
